Kingdom Mindset

Apostolic Recap

1) You are not your own
2) Individual members have a responsibility to the rest of the body
3) God is in charge
4) There are no valid excuses for Christians to not be actively participating in the body of Christ
5) We are being built up when we are connecting and functioning together
6) When the body of Christ is connected we become the ministry of Jesus into the world

1 Corinthians 12:12–27 (ESV)
16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? 21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable …25 that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another…

  • Kingdom Mindset
    • Where do with the church?
    • How do we ?
  • A couple things we should clarify first…

What is the purpose of life?

Ecclesiastes 12:13–14 (ESV)
13The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. 14For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.

What is the purpose of the church?

Matthew 28:19–20 (ESV)
19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Ephesians 4:11–16 (ESV)
11And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,…

  • Now… how do I fit into this?
    • Gifting…
What do , that many do not?

1 Corinthians 12:7–10 (ESV)
7To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good…

Romans 12:6–8 (ESV)
6Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them:…

1 Peter 4:10–11 (ESV)
10As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another,…

    • Experience…
What have , that many don’t know?

2 Timothy 2:1–2 (ESV)
1You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, 2and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.

Proverbs 11:14 (ESV); Proverbs 15:22 (ESV); Proverbs 19:20–21 (ESV)

    • Call…
      Where is God uniquely?

Acts 13:2 (ESV)
2While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

Philippians 2:12–13 (ESV)
12Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

    • Need…
      Where is there ?
Am I serving myself or the body?
  • How then, do we work together?
    • Why do we need to work together?

1 Corinthians 12:18–20 (ESV)
18But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. 19If all were a single member, where would the body be? 20As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.

    • What are the to working together?

Hebrews 10:24–25 (ESV)
24And let us consider how to one another to love and good works, 25not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

Colossians 3:12–17 (ESV)
14And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15And let the of Christ rule in your hearts…

    • What are the ?

Galatians 5:15 (ESV)
15But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.

2 Timothy 3:1–4 (ESV)
1But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

    • How do we the challenges?

2 Timothy 2:14–16 (ESV)
14Remind them of these things, and charge them before God not to quarrel about words, which does no good, but only ruins the hearers. 15Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. 16But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness,

Colossians 3:12–13 (ESV)
12Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

    • How do we capitalize on the ?

Philippians 3:14–16 (ESV)
14I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. 16Only let us hold true to what we have attained.

Philippians 2:3–4 (ESV)
3Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

    • Where do I fit in with the church?
    • How do we work together?

Romans 14:17–19 (ESV)
17For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18Whoever thus serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men. 19So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.
